Last night Neil Patrick Harris went on The Late Show with David Letterman to talk about his upcoming gig as the 2013 Tony Awards’ host. While I haven’t confirmed this with anyone except my memory, I think this is his 19th year hosting in a row. But with his charm and his enthusiasm and his actual singing/dancing talents, he’s pretty much built to host award shows. At the end of the day, he’s just an all around likable guy who’d I’d be pretty cool meeting for lunch on the reg. Or, more realistically, stalking him and spotting him eating lunch on the reg.
While chatting with Dave, he mentioned that he brought a clip of the show’s opening number. Keep in mind that at the Tony Awards, the opening number’s a pretty huge deal because it’s celebrating a room that’s chock full of triple threats. There’s singing, there’s dancing, there’s humor, there’s glitter, there’s pizazz and there’s Lea Michele. It’s not like the opening number for a movie awards show where we all ooo and aww because the host attempted to sing. It’s the real thing. Therefore Dave and myself looked forward to seeing the clip.
And surprise (or not surprise if you read the title of this article), it was not a clip from the opening number. But rather the clip from an entirely different dance scene. And no not Magic Mike or Dirty Dancing. Something else. I won’t ruin the video for you but I will say that it involves electricity and sliding.
