Hey guys! Naomi Watts actually looks legitimately like Princess Di in this first photo from Diana! Which is probably a good sign, since she’s likely being paid millions and millions of dollars to play that role, and it would kind of suck if she didn’t bear a passing resemblance. But luckily for the film industry and your noble eyeholes, she looks incredibly legit, so we can all get off the edges of our seats and like, go read up on Amanda Bynes‘ new legal troubles or something.
It was announced yesterday that Diana was acquired from Cannes for United States distribution by Entertainment One, and it will be arriving on your local movie screens in fall of this year, smack dab in the middle of Oscar season, in case you were keeping track. Here’s what the vice president of eOne had to say about the movie’s release:
“We are thrilled to be bringing Diana home from Cannes. Diana will give audiences worldwide a chance to not only fall in love with the Princess all over again, but also discover a part of her life up until now kept out of the public eye. And only Naomi Watts could bring such a modern icon to life, through a truly beautiful and nuanced performance.”
The film’s plot will center around Diana’s affair with a Pakistani heart surgeon (played by Naveen Andrews, who was Sayid on Lost) prior to her death in 1997. Personally, I’m really interested to see this movie. I was a weird age when she died — ten years old — so I don’t remember knowing that much about her until her death, which I remember in surprisingly clear detail. Like I didn’t even realize she’d actually divorced Prince Charles until I looked her up on Wikipedia just now, or that her affair was so widely known. Shit be crazy, I can’t wait to hear all about it, and also to catch myself up on all that sweet sweet nineties hair.
