Despite what you may have heard about Hollywood being a land where everyone’s accepted regardless of gender, weight, race and a complete lack of connections, it’s simply not true. At least according to Amanda Seyfried who told Ellen DeGeneres today that she felt forced to trade in her beautiful breasts for a Hollywood career.
Literally, she arrived in Hollywood, went to the Fame office on Rodeo Drive and handed over her breasts. In return they gave her the Mean Girls script and a token she can trade in for one appearance as a victim on Law & Order: SVU. The trade is known in Hollywood as the Little Mermaid agreement. You give up something that means a lot to you and in return you can have something that would otherwise be unattainable. For some people that’s Prince Eric, for other people that’s the role of Cosette in Les Miserables.
The trade agreement came up when Ellen asked Amanda if she felt comfortable with her naked body. It was in context of a larger conversation about Amanda’s Allure cover that included a feature on “How to Look Good Naked” and not at all as weird as I just made it sound. Amanda’s all like, yeah I’m cool with my naked body…because I’m beautiful (okay, fine, I added the beautiful part, but like duh, who wouldn’t be cool with her body?). But then went on to say that she missed her breasts. Back in her teenage days she had beautiful, large breasts that she loved. But then she moved to Hollywood and felt forced to lose weight. And you know the first thing to go when you lose weight? Your boobs. It’s one of God’s most favoritest tricks.
While it’s always depressing (but in a numb kind of way at this point) to hear how women are forced to lose weight to get famous, it’s nice to hear Amanda Seyfried say that she likes her body now and has accepted it as is. I’m getting to that point too. On alternate Sundays I’m all like, “not too shabby body, not too shabby at all.”
