The American Idol Judges Basically Declared Candice The Winner, So What Now?

Candice Glover American Idol Somewhere May 2013

Last night on American Idol, Candice Glover gave yet another knockout performance with West Side Story‘s “Somewhere.” It was so amazing that the judges have pretty much declared her the winner. They started by giving her a standing ovation, and then Keith Urban announced that if viewers don’t vote for Candice, “call your doctor, you probably don’t have a pulse.” Randy Jackson proclaimed that, after already giving one of the best performances in Idol history, she just gave “another one.” Mariah Carey cried, and Nicki Minaj told Candice, “See ya next week.”

Well, so what do we do now? Like, there’s still another week left. And two other women competing. But according to the judges they’re not even competing, because Candice is just automatically going to be the winner. I mean, it’s the judges’ responsibility to give their honest opinion, but I think it’s also their responsibility to keep the competition exciting, and to inspire all of the contestants to try their best, but that doesn’t necessarily happen when they’re basically saying anyone who doesn’t vote for Candice has something wrong with them. Not only that, but it runs the risk of jinxing Candice. Viewers might not vote because they assume she will win anyway. That said, the judges did give kind comments to the other competitors, Kree Harrison and Angie Miller, who also put in good performances last night. You can watch Kree’s “Here Comes Goodbye” here and Angie’s “Try” here.

Even though the judges kind of took away the sense of rivalry, there’s very little denying that Candice did put in a great performance last night. Last week I discussed her incredible performance of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” as bringing me back to American Idol‘s heyday, and I suggested that maybe the show should stay on the air to foster more of that classic talent. Her performance of “Somewhere” was also pretty fantastic. If you missed it last night and want to see what all the fuss is about, or if you just want to watch it again, check it out below. I don’t know about you, but I’m wondering what Jelena would have to say about it.

Candice is TALENTED, AMAZING, INCREDIBLE…and if she doesn’t win THERE IS INDEED something wrong with the voting public. Her performances have literally made me feel as if I have finally seen a concert in my 77-year old life. BLESS YOU, CANDICE GLOVER!!!
I thank God for giving you such wonderful talent and for giving you the opportunity to share it with the world.
