Countdown To The Mother: But Robin Isn’t The Mother!

How-I-Met-Your-Mother-Season-8-Episode-23-Robin

I don’t know what to say. I truly don’t know what to think anymore. How I Met Your Mother is killing me. The way they leave me constantly guessing about Robin and Ted’s relationship is confusing, frustrating and just downright annoying. Robin made her choice months ago when she said yes to Barney’s proposal. And even though I was never sure their wedding would actually happen, I never thought Ted might be the reason why.

Some of you may be asking yourselves, why not? Don’t worry I’ll tell you. Since the very first episode of this show, we have known that Robin is not the mother. After telling his kids the story of how he met Robin, Ted tells them that’s how he met their Aunt Robin. Their Aunt. Not their mom. So why do they keep hinting at Ted and Robin being destined for one another? It’s not okay.

Robin spends the entirety of this episode searching for a locket she once buried in Central Park in hopes of one day having it at her wedding as her ‘something old.’ Her dad and Barney both ditch her to play laser tag. So of course, Ted comes to her rescue even though he has to skip an important interview to do so. This, of course, is supposed to show you what kind of guy Ted is in comparison to Barney. Plus, I don’t think it was just a coincidence the way the show portrays Barney’s relationship with Robin Scherbatsky Sr. Barney gets along fantastically with the man who made Robin feel inadequate her entire life.

It bothers me that the show is doing this when I’d finally begun to slightly enjoy Swarkles as a couple. I feel like Barney would have been there to help Robin if she’d actually told him how important it was to her. I suppose the point is that Ted knew how important it was even when Robin told him the opposite. I guess some people might call that significant, but I feel like that’s just Ted. Clearly, Robin is doubting her decision to marry Barney. But that doesn’t mean jumping into Ted’s arms is going to make it all better. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Oh and also, did anyone else completely forget that Marshall and Lily are moving to Italy? Because I did. Whoops! Last week, they didn’t mention it once and I guess I don’t have a very good memory. Watching them pack for the trip was slightly funny and slightly disturbing (the gorilla suit/blonde wig memory…tmi). It has me wondering how the show is going to work logistically with the two of them gone. Is next season going to start one year after the finale? Because I think I would enjoy that. How about anyone else?

All in all, this was definitely not my favorite episode. There were a bunch of funny scenes. Ted with the fanny pack and Barney and Robin’s dad playing laser tag, but the end just ruined it all for me. Ted and Robin are not supposed to happen, and I’m going to be very unhappy next week if they get together.

I thought the end scene was nice as long as you ditch the idea of Robin and Ted as a couple. Which I did. A long time ago. Love triangles annoy me too much and in the last few episodes I felt like the writers finally managed to set a tone for Barney/Robin that was a) realistic for their characters b) worked for them as a long-term couple. But then again they also made me think that Barney understands Robin better than Ted and then the end scene happens. You know what, I hate that end scene as well.

well i wish she was the mother, but we all know she aint..yet again anything can happen and we just might get surprised in upcoming season…

maybe she is the mother..She can’t have kids so they would need a surrogate/doner aka the kids actual mother.. It would be a giant plot twist that no-one saw coming! They’d just need to explain the ‘aunt Robin’ thing

I agree. I think, though, that they may be setting up a scenario where Robin becomes the stepmother one day (hence Aunt Robin) after her “disastrous” marriage to Barney breaks up. Who knows – maybe it will be something wacky like the mother and Barney end up getting together and Ted and Robin end up with each other and if so, I will be totally disappointed.

i think it will end up that way except the mother will be dead. the 45 days speech was too sad for this not to mean something ominous.

I might be wrong. But STILL I have a feeling that Robin might end up with Ted. I’m not telling Robin is ” The Mother “. But take a look at the facts I found and feel free to read my SHOCKING prediction with a HUGE PLOT TWIST.

Marshall telling ” Not yet ” when Lilly says to pay up is a fact that still there is chance to Ted & Robin.

Victoria telling ” I REALLY think you’ll get Robin someday ” is another fact still there is chance to Ted & Robin.

And about revealing on the Wedding of Barney and Robin, the narrator says ” Kids, this is about the wedding that TERRIBLY went wrong “. This seems like Barney and Robin won’t marry. May be the reason for the ruin of the wedding will be [ Robin knowing the reason for the " Ted broke-up with Victoria " is refusing to leave Robin from Ted's life ]. When Robin know about it, she may start having feelings for Ted again.

Now my prediction is this….. True that Robin can’t have kids, true that kids who are listening the story aren’t kids from Robin. But that doesn’t mean Robin can’t be the one who ted END-UP with. The only way and a way to a huge plot twist is to end HIMYM is that Ted’s wife ( mother of the kids ) MIGHT be DEAD by now. I may be wrong. Ted can say to his kids that how he met their’s mom. But who knows, she may be dead. And kids can even tell them ” Aunt Robin ” caz she’s not their mom, but she may be their step-mom. Usually they don’t say mom to step moms. And even Ted says Robin was very good with his kids in the beginning of the series. Again I may be wrong. But this is the only way to Ted & Robin end Will see. Either way, the series will end in a LEGEN…wait for it DARY….LEGENDARY way ! :D

i predicted the same thing. Teds 45 days speech was too sad for that not to be true. and robin isnt wearing a wedding ring in “bad crazy” when shes talking to lily about marvin. neither is barney in the meatball sub episode (4 episodes prior to revealing he is the groom, kinda fishy since by then they should know that hes should be wearing a ring in ten years.) they confirmed that the marriage does happen but then again so do divorces and annulments. if im recalling correctly robin hasnt told barney about her fertility issue. this could cause a separation especially since barneys brother will be going through a divorce and perhaps Sadie will bring up the kids question since she was hurricane stinson-mosby who barney was obsessed with. i also don’t understand why teds children need to hear about how he met robin in-order to explain how he met the mother. he could just skip to the wedding. my explanation for this is because the relationship is new and hes just now telling the kids that he began dating the woman they know as “aunt robin” years after the mothers death. He would have to explain to them exactly how in love with her he was (since they seemed shocked when he first told them that he dated her) so that they can understand that he needs to move on with his life. losing their mother would be hard and having to sit them down to explain this to them with excruciating detail would be the only way they would except that he has to move on eventually.,
