So apparently Reese Witherspoon stopped by Good Morning America this morning to apologize to the country for being rude, drunk and famous at the same time. While there’s no excuse for drunk driving (or for saying do you know who I am when amnesia’s not involved), the entire scandal already feels completely descandalized to me at this point. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that this second apology wasn’t even necessary However she probably does owe her publicist a few drinks for handling this whole incident so well.
When most celebrities get in into trouble, they make the situation four thousand times worse by non-apologizing. Which then requires them to actually apologize, and by actually apologize, I mean reading some kind of prepared statement that some publicist prepared. So the whole thing comes off as incredibly hollow and super insincere and the celebrity’s reputation is forever tainted by their troubles. Oh and by forever, I mean until the next celebrity does something stupid. Which usually takes between 3 to 14 minutes.
However Reese Witherspoon released a perfect apology within 24 hours of the news breaking about her temper tantrum and subsequent arrest. She covered all the bases, as well as a few extra, and there wasn’t really much left to say about the whole thing. Well , besides the fact that Georgia cops need to rewatch Legally Blonde. I’m sure they feel just as embarrassed as Reese that they didn’t recognize her.
Nevertheless she spoke out this morning about what happened and once again apologized for what she did.
“It’s just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed…I was so disrespectful to him. I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It’s just unacceptable.”
Forgive me for my yawns, but I’m really over this whole thing. Can we move onto something more exciting. Like what the hell was going on in the Cruel Intentions writer’s room when they decided to pretend like two step-siblings hooking up is anywhere near okay.
