Jessica Chastain’s Movie Sounds Super Effing Good, You Guys

Jessica Chastain attending Paris Fashion Week Chanel March 2013Jessica Chastain has just signed on to a new movie, so that means she only has to agree to fourteen more in order to reach her 2014 quota! No you guys, I’m just kidding — everybody knows you only do double digits of movies once in your career, and that year was 2011 for Jessica, so it’s over and done with. This movie is made to stand alone, not squished in the middle of The Help and Tree Of Life and Mama and Zero Dark Thirty. Wow, actually, seeing those all written down, none of those are really throwaways. Jessica really did a ton of great movies in a row, I’m impressed; they’re honestly all winners except Mama…which we still don’t understand.

This new project is called The Zookeeper’s Wife, based on a novel by the same name written by Diane Ackerman, and it tells the story of a real couple, keepers at the Warsaw Zoo, who saved hundreds of lives during the Nazi invasion:

“When the Nazi army overran Warsaw, destroying the city and its zoo, Jan and Antonina Zabinski began smuggling Jews into empty cages. The Zabinskis also took about a dozen Jews into their home. While danger was always present, and her husband was part of the Polish resistance, Antonina Zabinski kept a mix of humans and surviving animals (lynxes and hyena pups, among them) humming in a one-of-a-kind community that included socializing and even the occasional piano concert.”

Is it just me, or does that sound like an incredibly awesome movie? Plus it’s being directed by Niki Caro, the same woman who did Whale Rider, so I’m anticipating a lot of long, beautiful shots of the animals and their environment, underscored by Jessica’s always incredible acting. I mean, I love Jennifer Lawrence and all, but I still think you should’ve gotten the Oscar for Zero Dark Thirty. Here’s to hoping this is your chance!
