Having a successful career post-SNL seems like it’s very hit-or-miss for some of SNL’s most famous “graduates.” Â Fortunately for everyone, Kristen Wiig‘s plate is so full I actually burped after reading a list of her upcoming projects! Â I’m so relieved, because even though I think Kate McKinnon and the rest of the ladies of Saturday Night Live are amazing, there is a little Kristen Wiig-sized hole in my heart.
“The show was seven years of my life and a six-day work week and you’re constantly with your friends all day, all night,” she told Access Hollywood at CinemaCon.“You sort of live and breathe the show. Then, when it’s over, you kind of feel a little lost… it was definitely an adjustment – even just the hours and no longer being in New York.”
Which is why I for one am ecstatic that after a period of post-SNL reflection, she was able to find herself cast in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.  I love seeing her in all her comedic glory, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that she’s actually just good at acting in general.  Did anyone see Friends With Kids?  She was great in it!  Her character tugged at my heartstrings in just the right way.  I’m sure she’ll perform just as superbly later this year in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with Ben Stiller.  (Side note: If you like theater/reading/being a non-moron, and you’re not familiar with James Thurber, get familiar quickly because you won’t be disappointed.)
2013 brings even more for Kristen Wiig with the releases ofThe Skeleton Twins with Bill Hader and indie movies Imogene and Hateship, Friendship. Â If she only did movies with Bill Hader for the rest of her days, I can’t say I’d mind. Â Either way, it’s really great to see her doing so well. Â I really respect her for being a balls-to-the-wall comedienne, actress and writer.
Ugh, if only other female SNL alums had her success. Cheri Oteri, I’m looking at you! Â I feel gypped over not getting a Collette Reardon feature film.
