Remember a couple of months ago when Seth MacFarlane was like the most offensive person in the history of offensiveness as this year’s Academy Awards host? Remember when he sang about boobs and the world ended for a split second? Remember when everyone with access to a computer had an opinion about it, whether or not they watched the show? Remember when Seth said he’d never host again? So we’ll never see Seth on that stage again, huh?
Oh, unless he accepts this reported offer from the Oscar producers to host the show next year. That’s right. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who ran the show last year and made the fateful decision to hire Seth, are returning for next year’s show, and sources tell JustJared they have asked him to host again.
“After defending his performance, the producers reached out to Seth and invited him back to host the show again,” sources close to the comedian tell JustJared.com exclusively. “He’s not sure if he’s going to do it, but he has to decide within the next couple of weeks.”
The producers want him back. Because you know what? They’re rebels. I bet they wear leather jackets and sit on street corners leaning against buildings with one leg bent, cigarettes dangling out of their mouths. I bet they also sneak their own snacks into movie theaters. Yep, Craig and Neil are the bad boys of the awards scene.
The decision likely also has a lot to do with the fact that ratings were up this year, which was probably single-handedly accomplished by college guys who like Family Guy and girls who had just experienced the revelation that Seth is hot. It also probably has to do with the fact that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have said they don’t want to host, and the producers were out of other ideas.
Of course, this doesn’t mean Seth is going to accept the offer. He’s already said he wouldn’t host again, and I’m sure he doesn’t want to be hit with tomatoes and eggplant and whatever other foods Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t eat when he walks out on the stage.
