Somehow Amanda Bynes Is Even More Worrying In Video Version

Amanda Bynes Telly video April 2013At this point, I don’t know if there’s anything I can really add to this ongoing Amanda Bynes saga. She keeps doing new and different worrying things, like this new video that Amanda put up on her Telly account last night, but all I can do is wonder where the EFF her family and friends are. It’s tricky, because being in this business, we as bloggers are hypersensitive to even a whiff of scandal; especially on a slow news day, if there’s even a rumor of someone doing something, we usually throw it up on the website on spec. Obviously we use all the proper terminology like ‘allegedly’ and ‘according to a source’, but bottom line, sometimes we’ve jumped aboard a story without being fully cognizant of its implications. However snarky I might come off, I really try to be fair, and to work from an opinion-based place, but I do sometimes slide into kind of…inappropriate rubber-necking. I’m not proud of it, but I acknowledge it — sometimes I write about celebrities in ways I’d never want to be written about myself. It’s a bad habit, and one I’m personally trying to be more aware of so I can curb it. So let’s start right now, with this video:

It’s caption was: “I’m Sucking On A Sour Patch Kid Listening To Music Getting Ready For Tonight :D” Okay, so. I’m not a doctor or a therapist, or an expert of any kind except in my own observation of human behavior, but this human being is not well, and we need to let that start reflecting in the way that we write about her and the way we treat her. It’s not enough anymore as a paparazzo to take pictures of her in Times Square and then just sell them to the tabloids; it’s not enough as a hair dresser just to call the media as soon as she walks out of your salon; it’s not enough as an employee of a gym just to kick her out of your class for displaying erratic behavior, and it’s certainly not enough as a blogger or a journalist to write her off as a ‘crazy person’ or a ‘troubled starlet’ and make fun of her behavior. This girl is on the road to something big, and someone somewhere in her life needs to step in. If you see her on the street, try to talk to her. I don’t care if she’s twenty-seven and used to be famous; she’s lost and she needs help. But even if you don’t see her, give her situation the respect it deserves, because that video is terrifying. She can barely keep her eyes open, she has only basic control of her facial features, and she looks radically different than she did even six months ago. She’s deteriorating both mentally and physically, and I think her situation is a lot worse than anyone’s giving it credit for; I’m truly of the opinion that if she continues on this road without help, she will die.

So even if you don’t have access to her in her life, as most of us don’t — this is beyond the point of making fun of her. She’s beyond a joke or a mess or a curiosity — she’s a victim. With absolutely no basis besides my own observation, I truly believe that she has a drug addiction and/or a mental illness. I also believe that she can overcome it and move into a healthier place with support and treatment, but the rest of us have a responsibility to take this seriously so that process can begin to happen. Just…be human beings about this, guys. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

This is very sad. There is clearly something very serious going on here. I know that her family has said that they have “tried” to reach out to her. But, something needs to be done here.

Yeah. At this point, I’m scared to find out what it will take.

I’m not even going to watch this video, because I think it’s been clear for a while now that there’s something serious going on. Sadly, I think that all the media coverage is adding to it, whether she’s just acting up because of the attention, or the attention is creating stress that’s escalating the issue. I just wish that people would stop talking about her and giving her all this attention. I think if she was denied the media attention she seems to be seeking out, it might spur her to get help. Sadly I don’t think it’s going to happen. While I know my refusing to read any more stories about her will have any impact on her life, I won’t be clicking on any more stories about her and I hope others refuse to as well.

Who knows if anything we’re doing is helping. I think it’s a step in the right direction to at least take a stand, so I applaud you for that.

Looks like she is having a psychotic or schizophrenic break. She has lost all sense of how she is perceived by others. I wonder if this is a result of early fame, desensitization caused by publicity, money, lost childhood. Tragic and excruciating to watch. Can’t help watching as she keeps putting on a show. Saddest of all is her obvious solitude and self absorption.

I am so scared for her. She is so young and incredibly talented, but she needs a serious intervention.

what is wrong with her? seriously? isn’t there anyone around her that can help her? this video is really sad… :(

  • Ria

Poor little thing, where the heck are her parents! I call schizophrenia for sure. If so, she needs to be on medication.

I lost my mother to suicide after she battled late-onset paranoid schizophrenia for years. I see the same behaviours (and even the same look and facial expressions) in Amanda Bynes. My mothere made delusional, grandiose statements, just like Amanda. When I see videos of Amanda, it reminds me of the terrible descent into mental illness my mother went through. We had a terrible time trying to get treament for my mother. This disease robs people of all rationality and self-awareness. Someone needs to help this girl!! Untreated schizophrenia often leads to suicide or worse (think of Aurora, CO). She needs serious help and not comparisons to Lindsay Lohan.

I’m very sorry to hear about your mother, and I share your concern for Amanda. I hope she gets the help she so obviously needs.
