Emma Watson’s Movie Awards Trailblazer Speech Proves We Should Rename It ‘The Girl Crush Award’

After an underwhelming Pitch Perfect opening at the MTV Movie Awards, it was a breath of fresh English air to watch Emma Watson accept the second annual Trailblazer Award. Last year Emma Stone set the bar pretty high with a lovely, inspiring acceptance speech. But the Movie Awards people are smart. They knew that being named Emma in Hollywood is synonymous with being charming and lovable. This award should be renamed either the Emma Award or simply The Girl Crush Award. Because that’s what it is, really.

Emma’s co-stars Eddie Redmayne and Logan Lerman showed up in person to introduce Emma’s award, and even Jonah Hill couldn’t resist making his own loving comments from inside a sauna somewhere. That’s what it looked like, at least. We got to experience Emma’s precocious Harry Potter years and her dangerous yet oh-so-carefree sun-roof ride from Perks of Being a Wallflower in a montage. And before she even got on the stage, Emma’s reaction shots in the audience were simply the loveliest.

And then Emma walked up the steps in her adorable dress and held her golden popcorn tub like a beauty queen would hold her flowers and gave exactly the kind of charming acceptance speech you’d expect from her. The English accent was an added bonus. She commented on her crazy Hermione hair and talked about how she was teased for being an “eager beaver” in school. As a fellow eager beaver, this excited me. I am also going to make a bigger effort to use the phrase “eager beaver” more often. She also thanked her fans in a genuine way.

And just like Emma Stone gave a sweet little pep talk about how awesome it is to be different, Emma Watson gushed about putting everything you’ve got into your passion. It was so inspiring it’s already been GIFed. Which is the ultimate compliment.

And perhaps the most important part of Emma’s acceptance speech? She made it short and sweet. Emma has to go, people! She’s got some trails to blaze!
