James Franco, eat your Ryan Gosling-obsessed heart out. Britney Spears just made your Place Beyond the Pines review look like an awful acrostic poem in comparison to her adoring comments about Adele in the May 2013 issue of Elle magazine.
Adele covers the new Women in Music issue of the magazine, in which celebrities like Britney Spears and Katy Perry pay tribute to the singer. Site BreatheHeavy.com posted Britney’s “love letter,” and I have to say it is incredibly sweet. It sums up the world’s loving thoughts about Adele so well, but because it comes from a fellow singer, it means something very different than it would coming from, say, me. And believe me, I have drafted and redrafted my Adele love letter hundreds of times and I still can’t get it right. I guess I should condense it, since it’s up to fifty pages, front and back, and that’s way too long to get tattooed on my back like I was planning. Britney is making me look bad. Enjoy the loveliness:
“Her voice is just not like any other voice out there. It draws the emotion out of you. A lot of her songs kind of put me in a trance. We were both at the VMAs, and they were like, ‘Do you want to meet Adele?’ And I was like, ‘Um, yes!’ She was even better than I imagined, in person – she’s so incredibly down-to-earth. You can tell she hasn’t gotten caught up in that pop music machine thing – which is easy to get caught in – and she hasn’t just listened to what executives were telling her to do. All of her stuff is hers, and that’s really amazing.”
Isn’t it just the sweetest? I find it so nice when celebrities say nice things about each other and avoid feuding or getting jealous. It’s disappointing that this nice behavior is the kind of thing we’re pleasantly surprised to hear about. But alas, that’s the dog-eat-dog pop culture world we live with.
One thing is very obvious from this tribute. Whereas Adele rightfully won the Jennifer Lawrence BFF race, Britney is looking to win the Adele BFF race. What will Adele do? Will she say to Britney, in the words of Kenneth Parcell, “Is this awkward because I’m your best friend but you’re not my best friend?” Or can Adele handle having two best friends? If so, can I be a part of this best friend party? I’ll bring chips and salsa!
