Emma Watson Balanced Pole Dancing Lessons With Her College Schedule, So I Bet You Feel Lazy

Emma Watson Perks of Being a Wallflower Premiere September 2012

In news that will make you feel like a real lazy bones, Emma Watson revealed to British GQ that she took pole dancing lessons for her movie The Bling Ring at the same time as she attended college at Oxford University. So I bet your own busy schedule as a [insert whatever you do all day here] is looking pretty easy in comparison, eh?

“I did learn to pole dance for the film, and I have a small pole dancing scene,” Watson explained to British GQ. “But it’s not a performance for anyone else, it’s just me messing around with my friends. I took lessons.”

“I had this surreal experience where I was studying the modernists, writing about Virginia Woolf on Friday night, then driving to London for pole dancing classes on Saturday morning,” she said with a laugh.

I already had so much admiration for Emma’s decision to attend college. And now I find out she spent her weekends hard at work honing her pole dancing skills?! You know what I did on Saturday mornings during college? Slept. That’s it. No pole-dancing. Not even a Zumba class or a yoga session. And then on Saturday nights while I was hard at work marathoning Gossip Girl, I’d think to myself, “Wow, my schedule is really hectic. I bet Emma Watson has it easy compared to me.” I know that probably seems weird that I thought about Emma Watson in that context, but there you have it. I can’t change my thoughts.

But boy do I look like a slacker now. And I bet you do too. Just more proof that Emma Watson is infinitely cooler than all of us. Now, what would really be cool is if she studied the modernists at the same time as she studied pole dancing. Actually, I think that might be the next class James Franco is teaching at whatever Ivy League school he’s haunting this week. “Advanced Pole Reading” is the official title, I believe. According to the syllabus, the first week they’re reading James Joyce while dancing to Selena Gomez. You gotta buy your own pole, though, and the bookstore has to order them special, and it’s a whole big thing. And then you have to go have this long meeting with your advisor if you want it to count for English and P.E. Emma was probably better off breaking them up into two courses.

I look forward to seeing your pole dancing performance in The Bling Ring, Emma! I hope you get an A on it.
