This isn’t something I say every day, so don’t blink while I’m saying it…because if you miss it, I can’t say when you’ll next get the chance to hear me say it again: I agree with the Kardashian family. No, shhh! I’ll explain. Just don’t interrupt me while I’m telling you why, because I might give up and go back to my normal snarky opinions. Remember a while ago when the journal of the girls’ late father Robert Kardashian were released by his widow, Ellen? She said he left them to her at the time of his death, and the entries themselves made a lot of pretty intense claims about Kris Jenner abusing Kim and cheating on Robert. I remember being pretty surprised at the time that Ellen could just throw claims out there like that with no repercussions, but I needn’t have waited long…
…because now the Kardashian-Jenner family is suing her. As you may remember, Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe have long been in opposition to their stepmom, particularly because she married their father a mere two months before he died. Their opinion is that she used his weakened state to con him into into a relationship and take advantage of him and his money. That in itself is a pretty big statement to make, but it has nothing to do with their current claim, which is that Robert didn’t leave his journals to Ellen after all. According to them, their father left them
“[the] bulk of his personal tangible and intangible property,” including “personal effects,” “books,” “works on paper,” “rights in literary… properties, rights in works of art … copyrights, publishing rights, and rights to a deceased personality’s name, voice, signature, photograph, or likeness.”
Sounds like that includes photo albums and diaries to me, but what do I know. They also claim that Ellen failed to declare that these items were in her possession when she filed for bankruptcy in 2010, even though the items had inherent value based on the growing fame of the whole family. Instead, they argue that Ellen held onto the items “with the express intent to one-day capitalize and exploit the valuable property and celebrity of the famous Robert Kardashian”…which she started to do in January when she sold the story to In Touch and Life & Style. Pretty ironic to hear one branch of the Kardashian family yelling at another over the exploitation of celebrity, but that’s neither here nor there.
The family is suing for damages of at least $500,000.
