Remember Ryan Cabrera? The singer guy who used to date Ashlee Simpson and then dated Audrina Patridge and was at some point cursed to live his life with a porcupine on his head forever and ever? He sang that song “On the Way Down” that will now be in your head for the rest of the day (still better than the Tonight Show song). Yeah, that guy. Well, he disappeared for a little while, but he’s back now, and it’s weird.
Not only is it weird that he’s out of hiding and he still has the same hair, but he brought something with him: a tattoo of Ryan Gosling’s face. He was proud enough to pull up his pant leg on a red carpet and reveal that not only does he wear socks with pink flamingos on them, but he has Ryan Gosling’s likeness imprisoned on his leg skin!
Ryan even explained the ink in an interview with Lance Bass (!). He says it was the result of a game called tattoo roulette that he plays with his friend. Sounds like the kind of game nobody could ever regret participating in, right?
“Me and my buddy we go in [the tattoo parlor] and he chooses one thing off the wall for me, then I choose one thing for him,” Cabrera explained. “You can’t see it until after it’s done and then we unveil them at the same time.”
I haven’t decided whether he means “off the wall” as in from the tattoo options available on the wall of the tattoo parlor (in which case, Ryan Gosling was an option?) or if he means “off the wall” as in bizarre, quirky, unexpected. He could mean both for all I know!
Ryan also explained that they have some rules for the game. I for one am very relieved.
“The only rules are that it can’t be religious and it can’t offend anybody.”
I would argue that this Gosling tattoo broke the first rule, since the face of Ryan Gosling is indeed a religious symbol. It just is. The second rule might be broken, too, since Ryan Gosling himself might be a bit scandalized by his image being used as part of a game that has also resulted in a unicorn tattoo and a Care Bear tattoo. But Gosling would probably just get up in Cabrera’s face a little and then shake is hand.
What I want to know is, if you’re going to get a Gosling tattoo, why not get it in a place that’s easily accessible if you want to look at it? Like your arm? Or across your forehead so you see it every time you look in the mirror? If you’re gonna permanently mark yourself with Ryan Gosling’s image, at least do it right!
