I very rarely give orders on this site (immediate lie), but you absolutely need to be watching Burning Love. No, like right now. Stop reading this post, take your computer to bed with a big bowl of popcorn, and have yourself an evening. The show is a scripted parody of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, and it’s served up in the form of twelve minute mini-episodes released on Thursdays and Fridays, so it won’t take you long to catch up.
The first season starred Ken Marino from Party Down, and because it’s produced by Ben Stiller, who obviously has a ton of Hollywood connections, it’s chock-full of amazing cameos. The first episode alone had Adam Scott, Kristen Bell, and even Jennifer Aniston, who did some of her most hilarious work ever. For realsies. The show is currently in its second season, with June Diane Raphael starring as Julie Gristlewhite as the bachelorette, an insane former lesbian who was rejected from the first season. Even if you’re not interested in the celebrities — Adam Brody, Jerry O’Connell, and Michael Cera, to name a few — they do such an amazing job of parodying the dating reality shows that you’ll love it anyway. Michael Ian Black does such a great imitation of a Chris Harrison-esque host that commenters on the video often think it’s a real show, to be taken seriously.
And now it’s been announced that it’ll be coming back for a third season! And so soon! Starting April 12th, we’ll see ‘rejected candidates from previous episodes vying for a $900 cash prize.’ Ha, perfect. So it’s kinda like Bachelor Pad except for a laughably smaller amount of money. They’ll release three new episodes that first day, and one daily for the next two weeks beginning on April 15th. I honestly can’t wait.
