Before You Get Too Excited, Lindsay Lohan Didn’t Get Any Jail Time

Lindsay Lohan at a Los Angeles court for her car crash case pretrial hearing February 2013

Against all odds, Lindsay Lohan is actually sitting in a court room right now while real life law goes on around her. Lindsay was scheduled to attend a hearing at 8:30am today in regard to that tiny little matter of lying to the cops in connection with one of her car accidents in California last summer. She rear-ended a truck, but by the time the police arrived on the scene, she said she hadn’t been driving, letting her assistant take the fall for her. Only…there were witnesses, so she got caught, and now she has to stand trial for reckless driving, violation of probation, and lying to police. And what’s great about that middle part is that even if LiLo is acquitted of lying to the police, she could still do time for the crime because she was on probation from her necklace theft when she got in the accident. (Too much for your brain to hold onto? Check out our full, comprehensive history of all of Lindsay’s various brushes with the law, starting in 2007 and including multiple exciting stints in rehab and jail.)

But even a simple court date today couldn’t go off without a hitch. Lindsay was originally supposed to fly into Los Angeles last night, but she got off her plane at the last minute because she felt it was unsafe, and spent the next few hours wildly calling, emailing, and texting everyone she knew trying to find other transportation to the west coast. She was finally able to find a private plane chartered by a beverage company called Mr. Pink, which was originally scheduled to get into LA between 6:30 and 7:30am, but which ended up landing late. Ultimately, Lindsay ended up walking into court at 9:18, forty-eight minutes late for her hearing, but surprisingly early for Lindsayland, which is lucky because if she’d missed the court date, the judge would’ve issued a bench warrant for her arrest. She did get ‘glitter-bombed’ on the way in (someone inexplicably showered her with golden glitter as she entered the courthouse), and the proceedings didn’t start until several hours later. It seems the judge knows a thing or two about making people wait, as well.

And even though she previously refused a plea deal that would give her only ninety days in rehab, it’s now become clear that Lindsay and her (California-incompetent) attorney have accepted said deal. So as long as she stays in lockdown at a facility for ninety days, she won’t have to do any hard time…but if she bails, she’s going straight to jail. Supposedly. But I’ll believe it when I see it.
