Look, I love me a little Miley Cyrus. In the same way that I occasionally love me a little Toddlers & Tiaras. I know it’s not good for me, but dammit, it makes me happy. And what I like so much about Miley is that she’s not playing games with us. She knows her 15 minutes should’ve been up years ago and she knows that she’ll have to do whatever it takes if she wants to stay there.
And no, I’m not talking making movies or music or doing any of that stupid stuff that other celebrities do. I’m talking about purposefully making personal choices that she know will get her media attention. Like chopping of all her hair or getting a tattoo or adopting the entire cast of extras from Beethoven. How do I know these are decisions designed to maximize her time in the spotlight? She tweets them all! And considering she has over 11 million followers on Twitter, I think it’s safe to say she’s doing it for the attention. Miley Cyrus excels at getting attention for doing non-attention-getting activities.
Just look at what she just tweeted yesterday! Something about her break-up-not-break-up-but-probably-a-break-up with fiance Liam Hemsworth. It’s almost as if she wants to keep the story going…so you know…she can stay relevant.
So color me shocked in a non-sarcastic way to find out that she retweeted Evan Rachel Wood’s quote about the paparazzi and privacy.
While I believe Evan Rachel Wood – who’s privacy got violated leaving a doctor’s appointment recently – has every right to say this, I’m not so sure Miley Cyrus does. Unless she’s much less self-aware than I thought. Miley Cyrus needs the paparazzi and the photos and the attention to survive — they’re all part of her complex photosynthezing process and I think it’s silly for her to pretend otherwise. So Miley, gal pal, stop preaching privacy, because it’s honestly the last thing that you need.
