Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Game Of Thrones Season Three

Game Of Thrones Season 3The third season of Game Of Thrones is getting closer, and HBO is titillating us by releasing tons of new information in advance of the March 31st premiere. The show will air on Sundays at 9:00, and ohmygod I’m so excited. I finished the fifth book and the preview of the sixth long long ago, so I’ve just been hanging around trying to figure out what that empty feeling in my chest was. But now I remember! It was a lack of Game Of Thrones (and valor, but that’s a different story), and it soon will be filled. In case you don’t remember where we left off at the end of last season, HBO has prepared a handy synopsis for you about where we stand now and where we might be headed:

As season three begins, the Lannisters hold absolute dominion over King’s Landing after repelling Stannis Baratheon’s forces. Yet Robb Stark, King in the North, still controls much of the South as well, and has yet to lose a battle. In the Far North, Mance Rayder has united the wildlings into the largest army Westeros has ever seen. Only the Night’s Watch stands between him and the Seven Kingdoms, but nobody knows what happened to its Lord Commander and the force he led beyond the Wall. Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen – reunited with her three growing dragons – ventures into Slaver’s Bay in search of ships to take her home and allies to conquer it.

And yeah, in case you noticed that there are some new names nestled in that paragraph, they’re also revealing the new characters they’re introducing to the series — favorites like Mance Rayder, Missandei, Barristan Selmy, Beric Dondarrion, Roose Bolton, and Meera and Jojen Reed. Well maybe not favorites, in the case of Roose Bolton, but definitely people I’m excited to see after only imagining them in my silly bookworm brain. The release also details the first episode of season three, which will be entitled ‘Valar Dohaeris’, as previously announced, with the following synopsis:

“Jon is brought before Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall, while the Night’s Watch survivors retreat south. In King’s Landing, Tyrion asks for his reward. Littlefinger offers Sansa a way out. Cersei hosts a dinner for the royal family. Daenerys sails into Slaver’s Bay.”

Yup. Yup yup yup, I’m definitely excited. I’ll just be taking endless ‘Which House Are You’ quizzes until the 31st and hoping one of them ultimately tells me something other than Lannister.
