I’m so sick of hearing about celebrilady squabbles that I actually got excited when I heard that Justin Timberlake went after Kanye West during his “Suit And Tie” performance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Like a scene ripped from the pages of a High School Musical script, he flawlessly slipped in some new lines that seemed liked a direct response to Kanye’s Suit and Tie diss from a few weeks ago. About time we got some guys acting catty up in here.
For those of you who missed the line change, The keen ears at Vulture picked it up (because the less keen ears at Crushable did not, I know, trust me, we’re embarassed):
Midway through his SNL performance of “Suit and Tie,” Timberlake changed the line “shit so sick got a hit and picked up a habit” to “my hit’s so sick got rappers acting dramatic.”
Naturally I sat back with a metaphorical bucket of popcorn and prepared to watch the possibly-literal shit hit the ceiling. But to my dismay, Justin Timberlake went on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night and made nice to Kanye. Jimmy Fallon’s all like, “hey man, did you switch a line in your song?” And Justin’s all like, “ummm, what, me? You think a kid from the Mickey Mouse Club would start a fight via song? Oh wait, that does sound like me. Yes, yes I did.”
He then went on to actually say, “for the record, I love Kanye, so there’s that.” Which made Kim Kardashian shriek from the audience “THEN TAKE HIM PLEASE! I CAN’T STAND HIM!” Which subsequently made Kris Jenner rapel down the walls to snatch her up and take her back to their lair.
While I’m saddened to find out that we won’t see this fight get handled like West Side Story (snaps and claps and rhythm), I guess I am happy that Justin Timberlake got to be the bigger guy and be the first to manpologize. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing that Kanye one-upped him.
