The people over at Lionsgate deserve some kudos, because even though The Hunger Games: Catching Fire doesn’t come out until November of this year, the way they’re releasing these character portraits one by one really has me on the edge of my seat. They started with Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket a few days ago, and since then they’ve released a steady stream of characters which I’m assuming will culminate in Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair, replete with glistening muscles and some sort of loincloth. Or maybe only in my dreamworld. Surprisingly, they’ve already released Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in full Bridezilla regalia, and the newest one was Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark just a little bit ago.
The theme of the portraits seems to be more “can’t smile, have wooden teeth” than “middle school picture day”, but regardless, I just have to choose my favorite one so I can hang up in my own apartment over a roaring fire next to an oil painting of my two trustiest hounds. It’s hard to gain much insight about the movie from the photos, except to note that after the first Hunger Games which they survived together, Katniss and Peeta clearly purchased a second home in the Hamptons, where they summer when they aren’t sleeping in trees and trying to murder all their new friends. Just look at the lightweight linen suit on Peeta. That’s the kind of suit that’s just aching to get out on the lawn and play some croquet while Katniss strolls around with a tray of lemonades for all their gently perspiring guests.
These are all the portraits there are so far, but we’ll keep updating the gallery as they appear. Because god knows you don’t want to be tracking them down all across the internet, slowly but surely hunting them until you’ve found every one. What do you think this is, the online Hunger Games?
