Is Taylor Swift’s Embrace Of Taylor Swift Parodies Evidence She Is Getting A Sense Of Humor About Herself?

The 2013 Brit Awards (Brits)

As you may know, there have been many parodies of Taylor Swift‘s hit song “I Knew You Were Trouble” floating around, some of which are very funny in a very stupid way. Why, just today, I discovered a new one in which her high-pitched “aahs” are replaced with a motion activated paper towel dispenser!

You’ve probably already seen it, but the goat version is pretty great, too (the next time you’re thinking of eating a goat, remember that they yell like people):

Taylor Swift is known first and foremost for her self-serious aura of PR-calibrated innocence. (See also: Taylor face, anything she’s ever said where she acts surprised that anyone would care which very famous manboy a given song is about.) She will not tolerate even minor forms of mockery. Hence, it came as a surprise that she tweeted out the goat version this past Tuesday:Screen Shot 2013-02-28 at 12.20.26 PM

Granted, it came in the form of a #humblebrag. (Or a straight up boast post, depending how you look at it.) Could it be that Taylor Swift has recognized that she is no longer an underdog in any way, and should hence must necessarily allow some good-natured potshots into her universe, lest people start to see her as a sore winner? I suggest watching some more animals sing “I Knew You Were Trouble” while you ponder that tantalizing question.

I choose to ignore all of this evidence. She’s still so basic to me.

She always had a sense of humour about herself. But with the whole backlash last year, I’d say ahe lost a little bit of it. Otherwise, she’d always make jokes about herself.

She always had a sense of humour, you just hate her too much to notice it. She keeps parodying herself and how she writes love songs.
