This has been a tough couple days for breakups — first we find out yesterday that Michelle Williams and Jason Segel split up, breaking the heart of myself and everyone else who was starting to believe in quirky true love between a short woman and a tall man — and now come to find out that Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen are separating too? What is the world coming to?
Okay, I have to be honest for a second: I may not teeeeechnically have totally remembered that Rachel and Michael were together, so I have let you down as a celebrity beat cop. For which I apologize. But they’re kind of an odd couple. He’s 44, she’s 34…and they can’t have been together for very long, right? A couple months? And they must spend a lot of time apart. [Wikipedia foray.] Oh, almost three years, huh? Since July of 2010 when they met on the set of Midnight In Paris? And they’ve barely spent three weeks apart in that time? Well color me an ignoramus.
Or color me an optimist, because you know what this means? This means we gotta get Ryan Gosling on the horn and see if we can get this pair of ruby-breasted Canadian lovebirds back together. I know that in theory he’s dating the extremely talented and deliriously beautiful Eva Mendes, and has been since September 2011, but this is romcom love we’re talking about. A romance forged onscreen in a Nicholas Sparks downpour is unbreakable, and I wouldn’t ask you guys if it wasn’t really important. It’s just that this movie turned me into a great sobbing snot-beast, so I’d really appreciate it if you could follow through and just keep up the illusion that you’re together. Because if I keep watching The Notebook over and over in my DVD player like I’ve been doing, I’m worried it’ll get scratched and I’ll have nothing left to live for.
