So Turns Out Amanda Seyfried Stole Anne Hathaway’s Oscar Dress

World Premiere of 'Les Miserables' held at the Odeon & Empire Leicester Square - ArrivalsYou’d think that the firestorm over Anne Hathaway‘s dress choice for the Oscars would be over, seeing as though the Oscars themselves are, but that would be a very foolish assumption. As Anne mentioned at the Awards, she had originally planned to wear Valentino, but then went with the light pink Prada number instead, that everyone (including myself) had so many opinions about. I felt like it was ill-fitted, particularly in the…ahem…nip region with those aggressive darts, and that overall it was reminiscent of a dress that your sweet neighbor girl in the midwest would wear to her high school prom. Not a fan, but whatever.

But now new details are coming to light in the elaborate saga of The Dress, and they’re actually pretty interesting. Anne said she was still planning on wearing the Valentino up until three hours before the ceremony, at which point she changed her mind. Why? I’ll let Anne tell you:

“It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans. Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”

But who was the wench responsible for this heinous theft? Well unless I miss my guess, it’s none other than Amanda Seyfried, Anne’s costar in Les Miserables. Here’s what Amanda wore…

Oscars Red Carpet Arrivals …and here’s the Valentino dress that Anne was planning to wear. They’re actually shockingly similar — both off-white with floral overlay and a high neck. What new devilry is this?? Valentino catwalk

Now I understand that knowing smirk on Amanda’s face all night long. You cheeky devil!

Eventually, both of their dresses were unappealing (and I’m kindly describing Anne’s).

I actually really liked both! The original ones, anyway…definitely not a fan of the pink Prada for Anne.

I think I just disliked that color on Amanda. That girl is pale, no need to draw more attention to it.

You can’t just ask someone why they’re white.

You DID NOT just quote my favorite Mean Girls line!!!!! I think I like you even more now.
(And it’s people. OMG Karen! You can’t just ask people why they’re white!)

Cool fact: those are actually dragonflies on Amanda’s dress.
