Season two introduces a new object of desire named Julie (played by June Diane Raphael), who, if you will recall, lost out for the affections of Ken Marino in season one. Julie is introduced to a million and one bachelors, including yet more familiar faces: Adam Scott, Ryan Hansen, Martin Starr, Rob Corddry…basically, everyone who’s ever been on Party Down, plus Michael Ian Black, Jerry O’Connell and Michael Cera. Holy shit.
There are too many funny moments in the first two episodes to count, but I especially appreciate the bubbly, slightly crazy way June Diane Raphael plays Julie, as well as the spot on tone. Martin Starr plays a neurotic grad student/premie who tells Julie, ”I’ve overcome a lot in my life and I’m hopping to overcome you also” with just the right amount of creepiness, and Michael Cera’s 29-year-old professor compares his feelings for her to his deadly peanut allergy. There is also a guy who “works as a prince.” He never explains how, but he says he has slept with many of his cousins. Good times! You may hold my box!
