Beyonce‘s Superbowl performance happened several centuries ago in internet years, and has since been memed, GIF-ed, and commentated to death. This, as you know, can only mean one thing: time for Donald Trump to weigh in on it!
He recently called into Howard Stern‘s incredibly relevant radio show to voice his thoughts on it. Thoughts which had been sorely missing from the conversation. Thoughts that went like this:
“When Beyoncé was thrusting her hips forward in a very suggestive manner, if someone else would have done that it would have been a national scandal. I thought it was ridiculous… I thought it was not appropriate.”
O RLY? The guy who owns the Miss USA pageant, wherein bikini clad young women compete against each other to see who is hot enough to go to college, finds Beyonce’s sexy and empowered lady-movements objectionable? What a perfectly rational, not-at-all hypocritical mentality. (Women are to be passive sex objects only, okay?)
But wait, Donald Trump has more to say:
“There’s been no mention of it. So, obviously, it must not have been so bad. She gets a pass.”
Clearly, this pass granting has nothing to do with the fact that Elvis normalized the moving of one’s hips half a century ago, and everything to do with Beyonce’s cozy relashe with the Obamas. This conspiracy goes right to the top!
In reality, of course, this is just further evidence that Mr. Trump sucks at pop culture commentary. If you are going to troll someone for doing something, you don’t wait weeks to do it, and you certainly don’t admit that it’sno big deal in the same breath as accusing them. It’s this kind of half-hearted participation that makes me think Our Miserly Gentleman Of Bad Toupees should stay off the pop culture beat.
