Hold onto your new millennium, teen drama-loving hats, everybody. Two of our favorite television actors are living out a real-life crossover episode. Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, aka Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen, are reportedly dating.
In addition to stealing our hearts on Gossip Girl and The O.C. (although my heart will always belong to Adam as Dave on Gilmore Girls), the pair starred in last year’s indie movie The Oranges together. A source tells Us Weekly, “They were always close and friendly.”
While this puts fans’ dreams of a Leighton Meester/Ed Westwick or Adam Brody/Rachel Bilson pairing on hold for the time being, I can’t be the only one who thinks they make a cute couple. They can bond over their mutual TV past and share on-set stories that hopefully someone will record and play back to me. And while I’m all for letting actors move on from their most famous roles, I can’t help but feel kind of giddy about two such iconic TV characters in the past decade getting together in real life. While I’ve only seen bits and pieces of The O.C., I’m not sure Blair Waldorf would necessarily date Seth, but it somehow works in real life.
Apparently the pair have been keeping their relationship under wraps, but they’ve been hanging out in Bangkok and looking at art at a Los Angeles museum. I don’t know about you, but I probably wouldn’t travel to Bangkok with just anybody. Maybe celebrities have different travel rules, though. What do I know?
I never saw The Oranges, but this makes me want to go watch it so I can pause the DVD to see if Leighton and Adam shoot each other flirty glances in the out-of-focus background of a wide shot. Or, you know, I could just enjoy the movie without doing that. I haven’t decided yet.
