I Wish Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak Would Let Me Complete Their BFF Trio

Since it looks like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are pretty exclusive in their friendship duo right now, I can only hope that Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak are looking for a third bestie to complete their friendship trio.  They’re the kind of people that make people like me sit at home and shake my fist to the heavens while shouting, “I want your liiiiiiiife!”  They’re both great comedy writers and actors, and they got their start in Hollywood when Lena Dunham was probably still walking around topless in high school.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, B.J. Novak talks about his upcoming guest appearance on The Mindy Project, where he also works as a consulting producer.  I feel like my brain operates in the exact same way as his and Mindy’s brains operate, which to me confirms their need for me as their friend. Obviously.

We invented [our characters on The Office] when we were 24, and they kind of stayed stuck in time — they were very bratty, and selfish, and a little thin. And Mindy’s character on The Mindy Project — she’s still a mess, but she’s a much more mature, self-aware adult. My character is too. She’s a doctor; I’m a Latin professor. These are grown-ups. So it feels like that was our Muppet Babies relationship, and this is us as real Muppets.

Forget the SATs and my mediocre English lessons of yesteryear, THAT is the best analogy for anything I’ve ever heard.  I’m also partial to anything that references
the Muppets, but still.  He also talked about The Office and his thoughts on this being the last season and his character, Ryan.  And since the only episode of The Mindy Project I’ve seen is the pilot, I was much more interested in The Office talk.  It seems like Dunder Mifflin hasn’t seen the last of Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard.

Well, I have some thoughts [on what Kelly and Ryan are up to], but I don’t want to say anything that will contradict what the writers are coming up with. But I think as always, Ryan is lost and thinks he isn’t. So now that’s probably just happening in Ohio.

Probably.  But since Michael Scott pulled a fast one on everyone and decided real life was more important than a 9-year documentary based in Scranton, PA, I can’t wait to see what shenanigans Kelly and Ryan have been up to.

Mindy? B.J.? Feel free to contact me if you need another life partner. Unless Tina and Amy get back to me first, I’m all yours.
