I discovered a reason to be watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards, you guys! And it has nothing to do with Giuliana Rancic interviewing herself instead of the actors or January Jones‘ extremely realistic Johnny Bravo costume. It has to do with Tina Fey, and the fact that she just confirmed that a Mean Girls musical is finally — FINALLY — in the works. The project has been rumored since way back in 2007, but it seems like actual progress is being made, and it may actually make its way to stages at some point in the not so distant future.
We found all this out while wading through the two hours of fashion nonsense that is the SAG Awards, as Giuliana pulled Tina aside to interview her. First of all, I’m pretty sure that Giuliana thinks that Tina and Amy Poehler are hosting this event as well as the Golden Globes a couple weeks ago. Either that, or she thinks they’re two toddlers on a Hollywood playdate. I’m basing this conclusion on the fact that when Tina came walking up to the mic, Giuliana squealed, “I just saw Amy Poehler, your friend! She was wearing black, too!” Good job kindergarten teacher Giuliana! Keep up the good work! And don’t be afraid to sprinkle in some awkward screeching at Hugh Jackman. We’ll call it singing and fix it in post.
But anyway. Giuliana asked Tina about the musical, and Tina said she’s working on it and and that it really might happen this time! So exciting! If we want real confirmation, we should just ask Amanda Seyfried‘s boobs. Can they predict the future, too, or just weather stuff? We’ll have to ask her on opening night, when she’s in the audience. “There’s a 100% chance that it’s already being performed.”
