Your Musical Guide To Last Night’s Nashville: The Many Men In Rayna’s Life Are Giving Me A Headache

Nashville

Right off the bat, I was weary of last night’s episode of Nashville. The show started with Rayna  and Juliette  performing their latest hit song. And though there was certainly no chemistry between the two lovely ladies, Rayna certainly seemed to have chemistry with guitarist Liam McGuinnis.

Last week, I had taken a liking to Liam’s character. However, I really wasn’t feeling him as a love interest for Rayna, and it look as if they might be going there in the beginning of the episode. I feel like she already has enough on her plate between Deacon, long-time love/ex-boyfriend who’s still very much a part of her life, and Teddy (Eric Close), her actual husband.Seriously, there was so much going on with the many men in Rayna’s life this week that I couldn’t even keep up.

Her chemistry with Liam on stage seemed more than platonic, and the quips he kept making throughout the episode were less than subtle. But I was glad to see she dissolved their partnership after he revealed his underhanded ways. Teddy seems to really want to work on their marriage. And then of course, there’s Deacon who was going through a tough time of his own this week.

For a minute I was a little concerned he was going off the wagon. While that didn’t happen, he did finally admit all the pent up anger he has towards Rayna for abandoning him all those years ago. We’ve always known how troubled their relationship was in the past, but this week they had a real, raw conversation about it. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m with Deacon holding out hope that he and Rayna end up together. I just about died when he ran onto the plane and informed Rayna he’d be joining her tour as part of Juliette’s band. I sense drama ahead!

Hopefully, there won’t be any more drama with Juliette and her momma. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they can keep having moments like the one’s we saw last night. Her mother’s addiction seems to always be at the root of Juliette’s emotional problems so it was sweet to see them finally have a breakthrough.

“One Works Better”

Played By: Scarlett and Gunnar

Scarlett and Gunnar had their first fight this week. She wants the two of them to perform a song with Avery’s old band, but Gunnar has his fugitive brother on the mind. So of course he lashes out. Thankfully, he came to his senses and the two of them plus the old Avery Barkley Band made some sweet music. Eat your heart out, Avery!
