The Trailer For The HBO Beyonce Documentary Will Destroy Your Pregnancy Surrogate Conspiracy Theories

Beyonce 2Okay, I admit it, I was one of those people who believed that Beyonce used a pregnancy surrogate to give birth to Blue Ivy. It started when I saw her stomach fold in half in that interview, and it ended just now when I watched the preview for her upcoming HBO documentary, Life Is But A Dream. It was fun while it lasted, but there are actual pictures of her mini baby bump and shots of early sonograms, so I’m inclined to believe it. Maybe some of the rest of you conspiracy theorists are hanging on, thinking there are ways of faking all this, but it just seems like a lot of extra work for not a lot of payoff, so I’m gonna let it go and enjoy the hell out of this documentary.

Part of what I like about Beyonce is she’s always seemed really down-to-earth to me. She’s open with her desire to be private, if that makes sense?

“I always battle with how much do I reveal about myself? How do I stay current, how do I stay soulful? I felt like I had been so commercially successful, it wasn’t enough. It’s something really stressful about having to keep up with that. You can’t express yourself, you can’t grow. It is the battle of my life, so I set a goal. And my goal was — independence. [...] People see celebrities and they have money and fame. But I’m a human being; I cry, I get scared, I get nervous, just like everyone else. Power is not given to you, you have to take it. You’re playing a part in a much bigger show. And that’s what life is.”

Word, girl, word. I’m glad she’s making a documentary, honestly, because all I really know about her is her music, which I’m obsessed with, and the back of Blue Ivy’s head, which I’ve grown tired of. Oh and the absurd amounts of money she and Jay-Z throw at the front of her head, like a $1 million nursery at Barclays or a $200,000 first birthday party, including an $80,000 diamond-encrusted Barbie. Which sounds pretty absurd for someone who doesn’t even know how to find her own nose yet. But here’s the thing about that. If you were, like, the richest thing ever, and you were married to another richest thing ever, and then you guys had a baby together and the whole world was watching, wouldn’t you be spending that kind of money, too? Aren’t there worse things to spend $200,000 than your baby that everyone’s obsessed with? I think there probably are.

…can you tell I’m compensating for assuming she used a surrogate all those months? Well I am. Sorry about it.

In her recent GQ article she says how she has had a videographer filming her daily life for up to 16hrs/day since 2005. If someone can go to such an extreme length to craft (and monetize) their image, why wouldn’t they fake a pregnancy? Besides being a vanity project, this documentary seems to be a staged confirmation that yes, she indeed did have that baby. It tries a bit too strongly I think, for what should be a natural and beautiful process.

I do believe she used a surrogate, for many reasons. One being that she’s usually a very skimpy dresser yet during her pregnancy she went all modest. I just feel like she would’ve flaunted her pregnancy more. Also, the way they had all the camera’s blacked out and took up an entire floor of the hospital. Seemed a bit excessive to me, even for celebs.

I do happen to know a regular non-celeb who’s using a surrogate and isn’t telling anyone. Her close circle knows but other than that, she’s just playing along that she’s carrying the babies (she’s having twins). So it’s not totally out of the ballpark that someone would do that.

I think Beyonce is such a high achiever but was unable to get pregnant. I don’t think she used a surrogate for vanity reasons at all but because she doesn’t want her public to know she wasn’t able to get pregnant. I agree with the other commenter that this video seems like an over the top attempt to prove she really was pregnant.

You’re supposed to be dressed when you’re pregnant. You are talking nonsense. I don’t know if you realize, Beyonce has always dressed skimpy only on stage when she’s performing. When she’s not working, she’s always modestly dressed. Unable to get pregnant? You don’t even know her. I’m so glad she did this documentary to shut the ridiculous reasons given by people like you.

How does this change anything? My stomach sticks out like that when I’m constipated or had an extra slice of pizza. If anything, I think this was her way of saying she DID use a surrogate but doesn’t want to share that (for whatever reason).
