While we definitely knew that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey would do an amazing job hosting the 2013 Golden Globes, we still didn’t expect them to make us ROTFL so early in the evening. Literally, I spent the first 7 minutes of the show rolling on my floor laughing. I finally get what that phrase means! It’s not just something you say to your friend when you want to make her feel good about her joke on Gchat.
They kicked their monologue (dualologue?) off with an awesome Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron joke bad marriage joke that worked so well because they delivered it so well.
How well? Kathryn responded like this:
Pure shock and awe. Like “omg, they’re talking about me and my movie and how horrible my famous husband was to me, lolsies!” Then followed that up with some classic Les Miserables humor because no awards show is complete without a crack at Anne Hathaway. (I just made that rule up, but I think we’re early enough in the award season that it could just work. Yes? No?) Then finally they delivered a now classic Meryl Streep flu joke. Seriously, I’m already planning on repeating it to all the people who chose to watch Girls instead tonight — and pretending like I wrote it.
Thanks to modern technology, you can now watch the Golden Globes opening again and again and again!
