Miranda Lambert is steadily becoming more and more of a hero in my eyes for doggedly reminding the world that Chris Brown is a fucking criminal. He attempted to murder then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 (yeah no, that’s not an exaggeration, that’s what he told her he was trying to do while he slowly choked off her air after viciously beating her), and yet we’re still comfortable praising his performances and giving him awards at the Grammys? This guy should be in jail.
And Miranda happens to agree with me, but she seems to be the only celebrity. When Chris won two Grammys at the 2012 awards, she took to Twitter to say, “I don’t get it. He beat on a girl.” Even after she took heat for her comments, she didn’t back down, carrying a sign at one of her concerts reading, “Take notes Chris Brown”, telling her audience:
“Get a good picture now, put it on Twitter. I’ve been in a world of hurt with Chris Brown fans lately…but see, I just have to speak my mind because where I come from, beating up on a woman is never OK. So that’s why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun.”
She then went on to play her song Gunpowder And Lead, about a woman preparing to kill her abusive ex-husband once he gets out of jail. And now, a year later, Miranda still hasn’t softened her stance, and we love her for it. She is this month’s cover girl for Redbook, and she tells them:
“He beat a girl…not cool that we act like that didn’t happen. I didn’t feel right about not saying something. The loudmouth that I am, I say what I think.I wanted everyone to know that I don’t agree with the message it’s sending to young women. It’s not okay. At all,” she firmly stated. “To be celebrated after doing something like that. I don’t think it’s right, I never will, and I will stand by what I said till the day I die.”
Thank god for you, Miranda Lambert…how are you the only celebrity who’s still pushing this message? But did you guys know that I also hate Chris Brown? Have I been adequately clear on that topic? Okay, I’ll assume you said no, and continue pressing this point for the rest of my born life or at least until he’s behind bars. And I encourage you to join me.
