Did you open up all your presents from Santa, little kiddies? Are you sure you did? There are no more boxes hiding under the Christmas tree or little trinkets hidden in the toes of your Christmas stockings? Nothing from Lena Dunham? (Oh…crap. I forgot that not everyone celebrated Christmas, so I should probably be a little more politically correct. From here on out I will be more aware of my terminology.)
Ahem. Did you open up all your gifts from the chubby bubby in the red hat, kids? And collect all the boxes under the tall indoor plant with the green needles? Make sure you check the toes of your holiday socks so you don’t miss any…prizes. But even if you’ve found all the ones you knew you were getting, I’ve got another gift you didn’t know you were getting, and it’s for all of us.
It’s the newest trailer for the second season of HBO’s Girls, which returns to us in but a month’s time. This one has signficantly fewer loving and laughing moments, and a little more grit and depth. It looks like trouble in paradise for newly-married Jessa, played by Jemima Kirke, with some unexplained tears from Zosia Mamet‘s Shoshanna, and friction between Marnie, played by Allison Williams, and a whole tableful of people.
And of course there’s Lena Dunham’s Hannah Horvath, continuing to march to the beat of her own drum, apparently being pursued every more stalkerishly by Adam, bonding with Elijah, and sharing intimate bathtub chats with Jessa. They covered a lot of ground in the first season, but if this trailer is any indication, they’re nowhere near out of ideas.
