After devoting approximately 9 hours each week to the third season of The Voice, I’m thrilled to announce that Cassadee Pope got named the winner during last night’s season finale. I suppose, according to The Voice rules, her win makes Blake Shelton a winner too. So that’s neat.
The 23-year-old singer-songwriter beat out Terry McDermott and Nicholas David to become The Voice’s first ever female winner. Which I think she means she gets an honorable mention at the Grammys…or at least the People’s Choice Awards. It’s hard to keep track of which reality show winners get which honors. For example, Ruben Studdard won the 2nd season of American Idol and got prized with the coveted “fade back into obscurity award.”
Regardless, I’m happy Cassadee Pope took home the top honors last night because it’s the first step in reconnecting with Anna Kendrick, her long-lost identical twin sister. Seriously, the two look exactly alike when Cassadee is singing. If I hadn’t ever seen It Takes Two, I wouldn’t bat an eye. But truth be told, I have seen that movie and I have seen that it’s possible for two identical strangers to exist in the world for the sole purpose of bringing their single parents together. So next question, do either Cassadee Pope or Anna Kendrick have single parents? If so, we’re about to witness a miracle! If not, disregard this entire paragraph.
Other things you can disregard? Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera. They’re getting replaced next season with Shakira and Usher — two people who are far less likely to dress in bizarre outfits and show off their cleavage. Or are they? I’m personally devastated to see these two go. Their unique clothing choices are honestly the best part of the entire show. Cee Lo Green wore some kind of body armor last night. Body armor! Then (yes, there’s a then), he switched into a pair of sparkly zebra print pajamas. He never ceases to amaze me. As for Xtina. I think we got as close as we’re going to to get to seeing her areola.
As part of their goodbye tribute they sang the classic high school graduation song “Good Riddance” with Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. My roommate actualy cried during this. I didn’t. You’re going to have to get a lot more cliche on my primetime TV if you want my tears. Like where was the Vitamin C??? Seriously where was it? They found several creative ways to fill the two-hour season finale and I don’t get why no one thought to invite her to perform.
Oh well. At least Blake and Adam will be back on March 25th for the next season. Yes March 25, 2013. As in three months from now. As in no one ever taught The Voice that absence makes the heart grow fonder.
