Last night, child star turned scarlet homewrecker LeAnn Rimes stopped by The Tonight Show to talk to Jay Leno about a variety of softball topics, including her 30th birthday and her short trip to rehab for “stress and anxiety.” (Related: do non-famous people ever go to rehab for stress?) But when he asked her about her new song “Borrowed” (which she debuted later in the program), she was as forthright as ever in talking about her “inspiration.”
“The song is about the situation,” she said, adding, “I did go through a very public affair…with Eddie, who is now my wonderful husband,” dashing any lingering hopes that she’d had a steamy affair with Mike Sorrentino in rehab.
“The song looks into the darker moments of things,” she continued. “People think that it was done with complete abandonment. It wasn’t.” Really? I’d say Eddie’s abandonment of Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville was pretty complete.
She further described the song:
“I call myself pathetic in the song because at that moment I was pathetic. The chorus is ‘I don’t want to give you back.’ A lot of people who have been in that situation can relate to that…It’s a very intimate look into a very rough moment of my life. I knew I would offend people more so than I already have, but I knew there was humanity in the truth of how I felt.”
Do you hear that, Brandi Glanville? You’re not the only one who went through a tough time. It’s stressful to be the other woman too, okay? Why don’t people have more sympathy for her?!
But the best part of the interview comes at the end, when LeAnn (who has just written a single about her affair) wonders why Ms. Glanville can’t just let it go:
“I should feel flattered that she thinks I’m so interesting that I can be a storyline in her show.”
“It’s not my fault you’re like, in love with me or something!” Pro tip: if you really want this person to forgive and forget, maybe stop singing songs about “the situaton” on TV? Just a thought.
