Martin Short Won Saturday Night Live Last Night

SNL-Martin-Short

Saturday Night Live is always good when the host gives 100% to every sketch.  Saturday Night Live is at its best when that host has comedic timing and doesn’t go overboard.  While I’m assuming Martin Short isn’t a household name with SNL’s younger viewers (who probably only know him from Jungle 2 Jungle), he doesn’t have to be.  This kind of comedy is what he does; the writers knew this and it showed.

I was wondering if there would be a mention of some kind regarding the tragedy in Connecticut, and I think the show handled it perfectly by having the New York City Children’s Chorus sing “Silent Night.”  The song was immediately followed by a star-studded monologue, which unfortunately isn’t available online.  But believe me, it was amazing.

Royal Family Doctor
I was trying so hard not to laugh out loud because I didn’t want to miss anything.  I don’t think I’ll ever be able to look at a photo of Kate Middleton without thinking of her “Thomas’ English Muffin.”

You’re A Rat Bastard, Charlie Brown
I know this makes me unoriginal, but my favorite sketches are those that include a montage of celebrity impressions.  Bill Hader as Al Pacino as Charlie Brown? Martin Short as Larry David as Linus?  Sold and sold.

Weekend Update: Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At A Party
I believe this is the third time Cecily Strong has done this character, but I’m not tired of it.  Maybe because I went to college with a lot of these girls?  Who knows.  I’m telling you, she may be a “featured player” right now, but she’s got a great SNL future ahead of her.

What Up With That?
We haven’t seen this sketch in a while, and I have to say I only mildly missed it. However, a ranting Samuel L. Jackson is always fun to watch and Martin Short’s classic character Jackie Rogers, Jr. fit in perfectly with the crazy lineup.  Also, Jason Sudeikis breakdancing in a red Adidas jumpsuit will never be old.

Holiday Pageant
Pretending Paul McCartney can’t sing? Not revolutionary, but funny.  Pretending Paul McCartney’s only talent is playing the triangle and wearing sparkly holiday vests? Hilarious.

Are we all forgetting the instant classics, Father of the Bride & Father of the Bride Part 2?! Seriously, Martin Short as the wedding planner Frank is just my favorite thing ever. It never fails to bring a smile on my face
