When you really think about it, do you actually remember the story of Christmas? No? Neither do I. I know it has something to do with the Mayflower and Mary and Joseph chopping down a cherry tree because the British were coming and there was no room at the inn except at a Pret A Manger, but I can’t remember any more than that. Ooh, except that there were two of each animal and the buffalo taught the giraffes how to harvest corn, because they didn’t know how. Otherwise they would’ve all starved to death in the harsh winters down in The Alamo. And that’s why our flag is a bird’s eye view of white pine trees on a blue field, and alternating red and white sled trails. It’s a complicated story, I’ll give you that much.
But that’s just the American Christmas. And as hard as that one is for me to remember, I wouldn’t know the first thing about the British version. But luckily for me, Jimmy Kimmel had a little British boy by the name of Liam on his show to explain the true origins of our most shop-happy holiday. Also luckily for me, he is effing adorable. The clip itself is only two-and-a-half minutes long, but Jimmy tells us that in the original version, Liam spoke for nine minutes. After being asked one question. I love it. I don’t even mind that I can’t understand what the kid is saying…I can tell it’s cute and odd, and that’s all I can ask for in a YouTube video.
Now excuse me while I run to the doctor and get my ears checked, because until I watched this video I was pretty sure I was fluent in English.
