“Me? Oh, I’m just hanging out, totally nonchalant and shirtless, knowing that the moment the paparazzi’s shutter clicks it will spawn a thousand Tumblrgasms.” Or, you know, whatever was going through Josh Hutcherson‘s head when he stripped off his wetsuit for what we’re gonna guess is Catching Fire‘s answer to The Hunger Games‘ cave scene. For all we know, he’s in a little competition with his bromantic co-star Sam Claflin to see who would end up going topless first.
Here’s where I need to make an important distinction. Technically, Sam was the first hot Hunger Games to go shirtless… but that was back when they were filming in the districts in Georgia. I just assumed that when they moved to the Arena in Hawaii, Sam would be contractually obligated to have his shirt off at all times. You know, Finnick Odair out in his natural water environment. But all the photos we’ve seen so far have him sadly covered up.
Instead, it’s Jennifer Lawrence who gets to enjoy Josh’s latest tattoos. That makes some sense, what with Katniss and Peeta continuing their star-crossed lovers’ act for the Capitols’ cameras. But their big romantic scene doesn’t come until a lot later in the movie; and there’s been a lot of debate among the fans whether or not they’re clothed for it.
For now, I think we’re still looking at moments from early in filming. Depending on where you’re getting your photos, Jena Malone is also there in her first appearance as axe-wielding — also oft-naked – Johanna Mason.
Is it me, or does it look like Josh is doing his best “I’m always angry” Hulk impression here? I wouldn’t put it past him, considering that he once tried out for The Amazing Spider-Man. Either way, it’s great to see director Francis Lawrence out in the sand and surf with his actors.
And now Josh is being all cute and fooling around!
Yeah, shirtless Finnick can come wading out of the water any moment now.
