If I had to list all of Lindsay Lohan‘s defenders — a short list to start with — I wouldn’t necessarily include Demi Lovato in that count. At least, I know that if I were in Demi’s shoes, having made it through rehab for an eating disorder and substance abuse, I would find myself hard-pressed to sympathize with Lindsay’s flagrant disregard for the law and unwillingness to turn her life around.
But you know what apparently unites young starlets? The media. After Perez Hilton tweeted a headline about LiLo’s latest arrest yesterday, Demi jumped on him and demanded that he — and the blogosphere in general — stop commenting on the issue. But for anyone looking for a Chris Crocker-esque “LEAVE LINDSAY ALONE” plea, you’ll be disappointed. Demi and Perez were both pretty civil about the whole thing:
As you can see, each realizes that the other stands in for a larger group: Demi for teen stars who act out because of emotional issues, and Perez for the media figures who have to straddle the difficult line between reporting on these developments without encouraging attention-seeking stars. I’m really impressed with both of them for not making an overblown drama out of this—it’s two entertainers having an intelligent and slightly emotional discussion about their two camps’ parasitic relationship.
Not to mention the fact that Demi and Lindsay could have some awkwardness between them since they both dated Wilmer Valderrama. But this truly seems to be a situation of chicks over dicks. Or rather, chicks over clicks? (Because pageviews and blogs and… OK, I tried.) Demi seems to have gotten the last word on the matter, tweeting this from her own profile yesterday:
In fact, she definitely has the last word, because so far there’s been no response or thank-you from Lindsay.
