Yay for new Girls season 2 photos! New episodes are still about two months away, but these on-set shots tell us a lot. More than that vague video footage, anyway. Entertainment Weekly has the first look at most of the hilariously self-absorbed characters from Lena Dunham‘s oh-God-that’s-my-life HBO comedy, and we can already tell some of the changes to look forward to in season 2.
For any of you hoping that the season 1 finale where Jessa (Jemima Kirke) marries Thomas-John (Chris O’Dowd) was a dream, that’s not the case. And I’ll admit that I panicked when I read this quote from Lena: “You know how an infant doubles its weight in the first few weeks of its life? That’s what’s happening to these girls right now.” Thankfully, she didn’t mean it literally: They’re not writing Jemima’s real-life pregnancy into the show! Instead, Thomas-John gifts his new young bride with puppies, aww. Hopefully she won’t lose these.
We’ve already determined that Lena’s lost some weight, which means that Hannah is also looking a little skinnier. Also, she appears to have an honest-to-God hairstyle and not her usual frizzy haircut. Still, I’m guessing that there is plenty of awkward sex left in her future.
…But maybe not with Adam (Adam Driver). All that EW will say is that Adam “still feels rejected” by Hannah from the end of last season. But he’s also nursing literal wounds, what with his broken leg care of that car accident in Bushwick. Plus, we know that Hannah might wind up flirting with the hot older doctor played by Patrick Wilson.
But perhaps the most surprising couple is Marnie (Allison Williams) and Elijah. As you’ll recall, Hannah’s gay ex-boyfriend (played by The Book of Mormon‘s Andrew Rannells) replaced Marnie as her roommate, but judging from this shot of their housewarming party, these two seem to have buried the hatchet. Who would’ve guessed that it would take a Sarah McLachlan song to bring them together after he slapped her last season?
Not gonna lie, I’m a little bummed that we don’t get to see any of Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) in these photos. Then again, Shoshanna gets all of the crazy plotlines, so maybe it’s best if her misadventures come to us with no warning whatsoever.
