It’s hard to believe that only a week ago 19-year-old Stephanie Bongiovi was found unresponsive in her dorm room after a heroin overdose. Although she was charged with several misdemeanors, she won’t be going to jail because apparently the police don’t prosecute someone who has OD’d.
Now that Stephanie can hopefully slip back into her semi-anonymous life as a college student, her dad Jon Bon Jovi is basically obligated to make an official statement. He’s managed to stay out of the public eye for the past week; it’s not like he had anything to do with her getting off the hook. But we’re dying to know what the rocker thinks of his daughter using heroin at school. So, he talked briefly to Fox 11 in Los Angeles.
In the interview (not pictured), he seems very calm and matter-of-fact about the situation. He doesn’t mention any specifics, but he comes across as a concerned dad who isn’t dumb about this king of thing happening:
“It’s human. What I do for a living seems glitzy and glamorous, but if you don’t take it too seriously, it’s a great way to make a living. And then life goes on. Things happen.
“This tragedy was something that I had to face, too, so we’ll get through it. And people’s warm wishes for my family and I have been really reassuring. So, we’re good, we’re good.”
It’s not as if he’s talking from experience; from what I can find online, Bon Jovi seemed to get the drugs thing out of his system early in his career, and his worst addiction was to steroids to keep his voice strong. Whether or not he was shocked when the news of Stephanie’s overdose first hit, at this point he seems very much in control of the situation, and concerned about his kid’s well-being. Maybe it’s not so bad having a rock star for a dad, after all.
