The Catching Fire Motion Poster Promises That The Movie Will Be Totally Badass

When I went to see Breaking Dawn, Part 2 at midnight last week, right before the movie they presented our first look at the motion poster for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. My friend, one of the co-hosts of the Fireside Chat podcast, leaned over and whispered, “Some people have been buying tickets just to see this.” And I understand why!

What I most love about this animated logo is how the mockingjay changes from the first motion poster of The Hunger Games released last year. Obviously we know from the book covers that each features the mockingjay in different positions, but there’s something extra cool about actually watching the creature turn from an almost poetic pose to something more menacing, wings spread as if it might strike. You’ll remember that one of the tortures in the Arena in this book is the section with the jabberjays screaming with the voices of Katniss and Finnick’s family members. Knowing that it’s almost enough to make Finnick go insane gives you more of a chill when you look at this poster.

But the best part is watching the gold ring — Katniss Everdeen’s pin she carries with her in the Games — turn into a clock. Because as we know, clocks are very important when it comes to the Arena in the 75th Hunger Games. I literally gasped out loud, I was that excited. Yeah, I’m a dork, but it’s also a really compelling image.

You can embed the logo from the official movie site, plus enter to win the chance to appear in the Catching Fire opening credits. The first 12 million people to share the hashtag #TheSpark will be entered into the kind of contest you do want to get reaped for.

Is this a sponsored post? Because as someone in advertising, this doesn’t seem any more impressive than a regular banner ad. I thought the motion poster for Looper was much more stunning and felt less like a banner ad and more like a nicely designed piece: http://www.flavorwire.com/332530/behold-the-first-official-animated-gif-movie-poster

Not at all! I’m just a big Hunger Games fan and get excited about small stuff like this. You know, I never saw the Looper poster–thanks for including that! You’re right, that’s very subtle and great. It is more artful than the Catching Fire thing, but then again maybe the CF logo is designed to get shared around more? My unprofessional opinion.
