Looks like this week’s celebrity scandal’s winding down as the D.A drops all charges against Stephanie Bongiovi. Yes, despite allegedly overdosing on heroin and being arrested for possession, she’s going to be a free woman.
As usual, our friends at TMZ have all the details.
A rep for the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office says it is dismissing all criminal charges against Jon’s 19-year-old daughter Stephanie Bongiovi as well as the 21-year-old male student allegedly involved with Stephanie’s overdose.
When I first read the headline announcing she would get no jail time, I automatically assumed Jon Bon Jovi, her very famous and very wealthy father, pulled some strings. I thought the odds of a Jon Bon Jovi Community Center mysteriously opening in Oneida County just went from 0% to 99.8%.
However, that’s actually not the case. Looks like JBJ didn’t need to do anything to help his daughter; TMZ says a New York law, “specifically prohibits prosecution of people experiencing a drug overdose — as well as the people who help them seek medical care.”
While it’s obviously great news that Stephanie won’t be facing jail time for a nonviolent crime (I’ll refrain from getting political here), it doesn’t mean she’s off the hook yet. She still has to deal with the Hamilton administration and any decisions they may make regarding her future at the school.
All we can really hope for now is that she gets the help she needs to deal with her alleged drug problem — and that she’s able to slip back into her life of anonymity as a regular college student.
