Stephanie Bongiovi Could Make An Example Out Of Celebrity Kids By Getting Expelled And Put In Jail

Stephanie Rose Bongiovi heroin overdose Bon Jovi daughter arrested jail misdemeanor marijuana Hamilton College expelledIt’s been a little over 24 hours since Stephanie Rose Bongiovi was discovered in her dorm room at Hamilton College after overdosing on heroin. After determining that she was OK, police arrested Stephanie for possession of a controlled substance—the heroin as well as some marijuana.

There’s been no statement yet from rocker (and Stephanie’s dad) Jon Bon Jovi, so in the meantime we’ve been wondering what Stephanie’s fate will be. The Daily Mail obtained a copy of the police report with a list of Stephanie’s charges:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (7th Degree) – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Criminal Possession of Marijuana (4th Degree) – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Unlawful Possession of Marijuana – violation

The Hamilton College handbook has a helpful, extensive section on their illegal drugs policy. They suggest that students involved with drugs look into counseling through the college’s health services, but they also outline the punishments for possession and distribution of illegal substances. “Students found responsible for possession, use, or distribution of drugs will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, which may include separation from the College,” the handbook says. In addition, “The College will offer no protection or immunity from prosecution by police agencies.”

Included in this section are the New York state laws regarding substances like marijuana and heroin, which gives us a pretty good idea of what fines and jail time Stephanie is facing. The violation for possession of marijuana will cost her $100, but she was also charged with a Class A Misdemeanor (4th Degree), which carries with it a prison sentence of up to 1 year. Same with the Class A Misdemeanor (7th Degree) for heroin—imprisonment for up to 1 year. So, Stephanie could be looking at up to 2 years behind bars.

It would be kind of mind-boggling to imagine a celebrity kid going to jail, especially someone like Stephanie. She wasn’t part of the LA party scene—she was at a really good liberal arts school across the country. We have yet to see if she’ll get the kind of treatment we associate with Lindsay Lohan, who spent almost no time in jail despite racking up multiple sentences. We’ll know more when Stephanie appears at her next court date.

It would be a really poor example considering no one goes to jail for misdemeanors, celebrity kid or not. I am surprised possession of herion isn’t a felony in New York and pot possession is only a $100 dollar fine. But then again, I am from New Jersey – the land of reality shows, fist pumping, over tanning and ridicuously strict laws only in place to raise money and fuck with young people’s lives. Yahoo!
