He may have just been re-elected Vice President, but Joe Biden‘s about to receive an even greater honor: a cameo on Parks and Recreation.
As you may know, the show has carefully set up Leslie Knope‘s eternal, burning, and very sexual love for the grandfatherly VP over the course of several seasons; she’s made it clear in no uncertain terms that he’s her most ideal of ideal men. Sorry, Ben Wyatt.
Now, all that pining is about to pay off in what will no doubt be the most gloriously awkward meeting in TV history. While Leslie has met political heroes of hers before (Senators Olympia Snowe and Barbara Boxer), no one makes her heart go pitter patter like Joe, so I can’t wait to see what incredibly inappropriate and/or made up words come tumbling out of her mouth.
How did this glorious thing come to be? The preview clip doesn’t reveal too much, but we do know it’s an engagement present from Ben, which is pretty nice of him, considering there’s a high chance Leslie would leave him for Joe Biden in a second, given the opportunity.
As for how it happened IRL, the show’s producers tell EW that getting Biden was “so much less difficult than we ever possibly imagined.” Apparently, Joe was already a fan:
His staff really loves the show, and he apparently had watched the show with his family and his family liked it… The hardest part was keeping it secret for so long because there’s all these FEC rules and equal-time rules. We couldn’t air it before the election because it was the equivalent of a campaign contribution to advertise for one candidate.
Biden’s episode is set to air November 15, but you can watch a preview clip below:
