Sometimes it seems like Jennifer Lawrence has no interest in giving little girls eating disorders. In a world full of actresses who tell us they retain their double-zero waistline simply by eating healthy, it’s so strange to see a female actress saying she’s aware of the body image she’s projecting. Frankly, I don’t even know how to interpret her quotes. What is this honesty? This candor? Or I guess what I’m saying is, “where is her publicist?!?”
Radar Online reports that in the December 2012 issue of Elle, she opens up about her weight and how she’s perceived in Hollywood.
“In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress,” Jennifer tells the fashion magazine. “I’m Val Kilmer in that one picture on the beach…I eat like a caveman,” Lawrence reveals. “I’ll be the only actress who doesn’t have anorexia rumors.”
While I know that a quality 90-day juice cleanse followed by some minor stomach stapling could easily rectify this issue, it sounds like Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t want to lose weight. In fact, it sounds oddly enough like she’s striving to maintain the body she has now.
“I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.’ That’s something that I was really conscious of during training, when you’re trying to get your body to look exactly right. I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong, not thin and underfed.”
See what I’m saying? She’s trying to be a good role model for girls who may admire her. How often does this actually happen in Hollywood? How often do female celebrities make it clear that they’re trying to maintain a fit and strong body — rather than one that looks malnourished.
As strange as it is to read these quotes, it’s so incredibly refreshing to see a celebrity say that they see the connection between their actions and their fans’ actions. That they’re not only aware of their influence, but they’re going to do the right thing and make sure that little girls are getting a positive message.
Jennifer Lawrence, once again proves, why she’s one of the most crushable actresses in Hollywood right now. And for the last time (not the last time), I’m totally willing and open to be her new best friend.
