As If Winning America Weren’t Enough, Barack Obama Has Now Won Twitter

Barack Obama victory tweet "Four more years" hugging Michelle 2012 election most retweeted 500,000 Twitter win

Now that Barack Obama has been re-elected President of the United States, we can breathe a sigh of relief that we won’t be getting more annoying campaign emails. However, this doesn’t mean that the Obama camp’s social media pwnage is gonna stop, by any means. Our 44th President, whose campaign trail garnered that great photo of him getting caught up in a bear hug, made another photo go viral last night. Shortly after he surpassed 270 electoral votes, he tweeted the above pic of him hugging wife Michelle Obama with the simple caption Four more years.

In just a few hours, the tweet got over 500,000 retweets, making it the most popular tweet by 100K. As of writing this, it’s at over 642,000 retweets. How can you not want to share this tender moment? It’s no secret that America loves the First Couple, so it was a smart social media move to give Obama’s followers that photo. But at the same time, there’s no artifice: Even though it was posed some time ago in preparation, you know that they’re genuinely overjoyed at the win and will continue to support each other.

Also, points for being on social media even when he has the biggest excuse to not be online. Then you have Mitt Romney, whose most recent tweet is a reminder to vote from sixteen hours ago. When I went to sleep at 1 a.m. I assumed that I’d wake up to a message from Romney conceding, but I guess he figured giving a speech was enough. And this is why the Romney camp will never — intentionally, at least — win social media.
