While promoting Prometheus, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender took every opportunity to get buddy-buddy: They posed together in an undeniably erotic W magazine shoot, they goofed around in their costumes which led to adorable on-set photos, and Charlize praised his penis. No, like, she literally told him, “Your penis was a revelation” at a Human Rights Campaign gala. Suffice to say, these two had great chemistry and a lot of fun working together.
You could not say the same for Charlize’s new co-star in a sci-fi thriller. She’s starring opposite Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road, but according to RadarOnline, they’re not getting along at all.
A “source” divulges that the main problem is Charlize thinking Tom is just a weirdo: “Professionally, they are doing a wonderful job, but in-between takes Tom likes to stay in character and is constantly talking to himself and mumbling things.” The insider goes on to say that “Charlize has tried to talk to him during breaks in filming but he shuts himself off from the rest of the cast. She has the ability to switch off when she’s not filming, and can immediately turn into her character as soon the camera’s rolling.”
I’m inclined to think this is just someone stirring up shit on the set. Because yes, Tom is a little odd: He sported a huge beard for much of the past year and wore a trenchcoat to the Dark Knight Rises premiere. But at the same time, he comes across as incredibly humble when talking about getting to work with greats like Gary Oldman. And — my favorite thing about him — he often anonymously takes down his internet haters.
Plus, we’ve seen Charlize Theron cut loose and be a good sport. I find it hard to believe that she’d be some ice queen on-set who switches her character on and off between takes. RadarOnline also reports that the studio is nervous about director George Miller, since his last movie Happy Feet Two went over budget and then flopped at the box office. Though that may have been because it was Happy Feet Two.
Either way, I have faith that Charlize and Tom can rally with their shaved heads and find a way to get along. Maybe we won’t get any sexy photo spreads or cute Comic-Con photos out of it, but they can be professionals, dammit!
