This was a classic story about a family's love and devotion for each other. Just kidding, there was absolutely nothing classic about this creepy clan. When I was finally able to watch this movie without covering my eyes, it helped me learn that crazy people need love too. It also taught me to always be wary of long lost relatives who suddenly regain their memories after going missing for twenty-five years. Also, it's probably not smart to buy lemonade from a little girl whose only friend is a disembodied hand. That probably won't end well.
It's hard to believe that Hocus Pocus was pretty poorly received by film critics back in 1993. Ok it isn't really that hard to believe, but still I doubt the filmmakers care. After all, they had the last laugh. The movie has become nothing short of a phenomenon. It's become synonymous with Halloween and is rebroadcast on television frequently during the month of October.
This tale of three sister witches on a quest to live their lives forever young taught us many things. First of all, stay away from crazy spinsters who are frequently seen muttering spells and riding on broomsticks. No matter what they tell you, they're probably witches looking to suck the life of you. Clearly, all brothers should be willing to risk their lives to save their little sisters from evil witches (Somebody should probably tell mine. I don't think he got the memo.) And of course if you're a virgin, never ever light a black candle.

Ok so I cheated a little bit. This movie was released pre-1990, but still it was on television every year when I was growing up. I remember because I was so incredibly afraid of it that I usually ran from the room screaming within the first five seconds of it coming on screen. But I think I got the gist of it.
Never say the name Beetlejuice three times unless you’re prepared to suffer the consequences. After you die, you have to remain in your home for 125 years. So make sure you live someplace really cool. Also, I'll never buy a home where the previous owners have recently met their demise for fear that they'll enlist the help of a crazy ghost to scare me away and lure my teenage daughter into the underworld.
Casper was always one of my favorite movies to watch during Halloween time. It was about a friendly ghost, and I'm not too embarrassed to admit that I used to be a wuss. So since this movie was never all that scary to me, I enjoyed it.
It made me want to believe in ghosts (nice ones, of course). Plus it taught me that ghosts, like children, prefer donuts and junk food to a well-balanced breakfast. And of course, I learned to never mess with a girl who lives in a haunted house. She's probably friends with ghosts and they will not hesitate to mess with me.
In my opinion, this is an extremely underrated film. It's a Disney Channel classic, which probably scares some people away. But I don't know a single person my age that hasn't seen this movie more than once. Seriously if you haven't seen it, you really need to check it out.
This movie was supposed to make you believe in the classic good always conquers evil story. But it also had me thinking that every mom who's evasive about her upbringing is clearly trying to hide the fact that she comes from a family of witches. Never trust an old high school flame of your mother's. He's probably an evil demon looking to takeover the world. But most importantly, we need to become more tolerant as a human race so we can coexist with supernatural beings again.
